My #1 Quilting Tip!

Some of you may have already heard this before, but this one bears repeating. This simple tip will help with all of your quilt piecing - especially complicated or intricate quilt blocks.

I’m sure you all know the necessity of a consistent 1/4” seam allowance in quilting, but are you familiar with a Scant 1/4” Seam Allowance?

This simple trick will make a huge difference. And it’s SO much easier to make this adjustment than you might think! And there are lots of ways to make it happen.

Timeless Red and White Quilt Inspiration

Red + White quilts are probably one of the most classic color combinations of all time. After Christmas I love keeping my red and white quilts out through Valentines Day.

Fun Finds on the Web - Creative ways to fill Winter days

I'm still smitten with this modern take on a traditional Lone Star quilt made with half square triangles. It's so simple and and makes such a beautiful, graphic statement. It's on my "To-make" list!

Have you seen Minki Kim's YouTube channel? It is full of delightful projects and video tutorials including bags, fabric baskets, and these cute pincushions. I love these scrappy heart zipper pouches - pattern available in 3 sizes!

Elizabeth from Quilter's Candy has a fun tutorial for simple quilted coasters with a contemporary vibe. A quick and easy project and great ways to use up scraps.

The Idea Room has a super simple Heart String Art project idea - it's perfect for teaching kids to sew and keeping them busy on inside January days as well!

Reminder about the online virtual Quilted Summit coming up the first week of February! It's free with 25 speakers on all-things quilting and a really fun way to get some creative inspiration and connect with other quilters during these winter months. Get all of the details + free ticket here.

I thought I would give you a quick look at the glamour that goes on behind the scenes aroud here, particularly when I'm writing my newsletter. My husband captured this when he walked in the door one evening. This is me in my high-tech office (aka on my couch with a laptop) wearing my fancy work clothes (aka anything warm and stretchy).

This picture has an added bonus of capturing my fashionable style with the cardigan that my family loves to tease me about. I got this sweatshirt/cardigan on a 75% off sale a few years ago. It is the PERFECT easy-to-add layer for wearing over other long sleeved shirts in the winter. Yes, the half sleeves are weird (hence the reason it was 75% off) but that's also what makes it so great because it's so easy to slip on and off depending on my temperature of the moment (thanks perimenopause).

My kids call this my Dune sweater (yes, after the book/movie series) because of it's avant garde style. It's kind of like a mini Snuggie with easy on-off-functionality.

Also notice the typically present bowl of apples and peanut butter remnants and my favorite go-to Bert and Ernie snack bowl. (The one little-kid bowl I couldn't part with after my kids grew up.)

So there's a behind-the-curtain look into the sophisticated business that happens here at Diary of a Quilter headquarters.

As always, thanks a million for stopping by. See you next week!

xo,

Amy
