Jelly Roll Pattern Sale + Manx Quilt Block TutorialHello friends! Thank you so much for stopping by. ❤ This week I'm at QuiltCon, soaking up all of the quilts and color inspiration. Check out my posts and stories on Instagram to see the highlights! I'll be writing up a recap and sharing next week. New on the blog this week, a new quilt finish that was quick thanks to strip-piecing techniques. This Jelly-Roll-friendly quilt pattern, A Bushel and a Peck is perfect for a quick make! This version was made using a brand new collection from Riley Blake called Blush 'n Butterscotch. The colors are so warm and beautiful. Click below to read all about this latest quilt finish including the pattern and the fabric. Also, the pattern is on sale this week only for 20% off!
Hand-piecing a Manx Quilt BlockOne thing winter puts me in the mood for is pulling out some hand-piecing work. Here's a fun one. Are you familiar with Manx-quilt blocks? This block looks like a traditional Log Cabin block, the the piecing method is very different. This traditional hand-piecing method is very forgiving and therefor, relaxing! It's very soothing stitching and a great way to use up scraps. Since I originally shared this technique a few years ago, this has been one of the most popular tutorials on my site! Click below for the full tutorial and a little bit of the history behind Manx (rhymes with Spanx) quilting.
Quilting Tip of the Week: Fixing a Quilt Block That is Too SmallHave you ever put lots of time into an intricate quilt block, only to have it end up too small for the quilt it's supposed to be a part of? Leila Gardunia has a fantastic, simple tip to remedy quilt blocks that end up too small. (Without having to pull out the seam ripper!) Click the button below to read more.
Fun Finds on the WebHow cute is this Solar System-inspired mini quilt? Find the free tutorial here from Ameroonie Designs. Ooo, I'm totally smitten with this new free pattern from Liberty Quilting called Botanist's Walk. Classic and so pretty. Looking for some gorgeous scrap-quilt-inspiration? Check out Emily Dennis' Scrappy Trip Around the World quilts. I made one of these quilts about 10 years ago, but lately I've been itching to make a new one in a more washed out color palette. I'm totally inspired by the ones Emily made. Here's a peek at what I was working on before I left for Quilt Con. I decided to take my own advice from last week's newsletter and make quilted sweatshit to wear. I'd been wracking my brain trying to decide what kind of quilt block to use. And then, a stroke of genius! I remembered that I had this orphan quilt block from last year's Riley Blake Block challenge (free block pattern here) using some of my favorite prints from very own Albion fabric. 🥰 I used this sweatshirt that I found on Amazon. I like it because it's lightweight and easy to stitch through. I'm planning to do some chunky quilting with 8 wt thread. Check out my instagram feed to see how it all turned out. (Since I'm writing this newsletter early this week and scheduling before I leave, I don't even know myself how to will turn out. How's that for some weird Christopher Nolan-Quilty-Inception-Tenet timeline.) But things look promising! Excited to connect with lots of quilters in real life this week.
