Color and Textile (and Food) Inspiration from Mexico City!At the beginning of January we had the chance to visit Mexico City for the first time. I'd heard great things, but OH MY GOODNESS - it exceeded ALL expectations. We had such a fabulous time. (And ate sooooooo many tacos. π€€) I can't recommend it enough! Besides the food, my favorite part was all of the gorgeous, colorful handcrafted inspiration. I even got to learn how textiles have been sourced and dyed for centuries. Amazing stuff. Have you ever been? It's taken me forever to sort through all of the pictures and put them together in a sucint post. Click below if you'd like a little colorful, sunny, arm-chair travel report on a winter day:
When we got home from Mexico City, the latest Embroidery kit from Missouri Star Quilt Co. arrived. After all of that saturated color inspiration in Mexio, I was excited work on some vibrant embroidery - and I purposely chose the black fabric to make those colors pop.
Fun Finds on the Web - More Valentine's Day ProjectsThis heart pennant pillow is super quick and simple to make. Use raw-edge applique to stich the hearts in place. It's easy to customize and fun for using favorite scraps. One year I whipped up fast and EASY little Fat Quarter Tote Bags using some cute red + white fabric for a quick β€ gift for some nieces. These scrappy little Valentine mug rugs from Ameroonie Designs would be a fun quick make and a cute gift. Bev from Flamingo Toes has another cute mug rug variation here. Andy of A Bright Corner has a tutorial for the sweetest teardrop-shaped drawstring bag - perfect touch for adding a sweet treat. Amy Morgan shares a free pattern for a pixelated heart mini quilt here. Quilted Summit is this week! Here's another fun pick-me-up for winter blahs: Join the FREE Quilted! online summit this week!
