What's New + Simple Summer Coaster Tutorials

Greetings friends! Hoping this week's edition finds you well!

Life's been a little bit of a madhouse around here. We've got family in town to visit (hooray!), fresh zucchini from the garden (yum!), and final tech editing on new patterns that will be released next week (both yay! and πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«).

As a result, lots of projects in the works, but not a lot of finishes. Still it's been a while since I've done a What's on My Sewing Table update.

SO many projects in the works at the moment. πŸ˜… Here's a peek at some of them. Check out this post to see all of the latest on recent WIP's (Works In Progress) as well as a 17-year-old WIP. Opinions welcome.

And if projects on your sewing table are feeling neglected as well, well come join in solidarity with mine.

Also, get a sneak peek of my latest pattern, Briarcreek Blooms that will release next week! πŸŽ‰

4 Tips for Getting Out of a Creative Rut

If you're like a lot of us, one thing that seems to typically be MIA at this point of the summer is my "sewjo".

The good news is: if you feel this way you're not alone! Summer is full of so many other distractions. And that's a good thing!

But if you're looking for a boost to your creativity I've got some suggestions. A couple of years ago I shared 4 Tips for getting out of a Creative Rut.

If you're stifled creatively, one (or more) of these tips might help you too. ❀️

Fun Finds: Handmade Summer Coaster Ideas

Coasters are so handy for cool drinks in summer months.

So why not have some pretty ones on hand?

These beautiful leaf coasters are easy to make thanks to a tutorial from Sedef Imer. And they're a great way to use up pretty fabric.

Or use leftover orphan quilt blocks to make cheerful coasters in this project idea from Stephanie of Swoodson Says.

Or what about a popsicle version in this free pattern from Amy of Ameroonie Sews?

Or check out this modern quilt-as-you-go quilted coaster tutorial using leftover scraps from Kristen of Scrap Fabric Love.

I'm Teaching at Garden of Quilts!

It's very rare that I teach in person lately, but I will be teaching at this year's Garden of Quilts event on September 12 in Lehi, Utah. I'm doing a trunk show that morning in the gardens (lectures and trunk shows are free with admission to the event) as well as teaching a class that afternoon. (Class information here.)

We'll be making this Scandi Hearts sampler with multiple layout options as well as lots of strip-piecing tips and tricks (my favorite!) (After our trip to Norway last month, I'm feeling inspired by all things Scandinavian!)

There's only a handful of spots left in the class if you're interested in joining.

I will also be at the Meet the Maker event that evening. (It will be a busy day!)

The Garden of Quilts event is one of my favorite of the year. September is my favorite month in Utah and the venue and setting for this quilt show is just amazing. If you plan to come, let me know. I'd love to see you!

Ok, happy August! Back to the family and crazy here.

Have a great week! I'll be back with more to share next week.

As always, thanks for stopping by.

Amy
